Why Burning Certified Ready to Burn Wood Matters
The Ready to Burn scheme exists because of one simple problem: wet wood does not burn cleanly. When timber still holds a lot of water, a large share of the heat from your fire is spent evaporating that moisture rather than warming your room, and the fire burns cooler and less completely as a result.
Incomplete combustion releases fine particulate matter, known as PM2.5. Those particles are small enough to be inhaled deep into the lungs, and domestic solid fuel burning is recognised as a significant contributor to PM2.5 in the UK. That is why Defra introduced the Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020, which restrict the sale of wood fuel for domestic burning unless it is ready to burn.
In practice, that means wood fuel sold for use in the home must be certified as having a moisture content below 20%. Buying certified firewood is not just a marketing label: it is the legal standard for wood fuel sold in England, and it is the easiest way for a household to guarantee a cleaner, more efficient burn.
Every load we supply is kiln-dried and moisture-tested to stay under that threshold, so you get the heat you are paying for and the smoke leaving your chimney is kept to a minimum.
Our Commitment to Quality & Sustainability
Kiln drying is a controlled process: the timber is dried to a consistent target moisture level rather than left to the weather, which is what gives certified firewood its reliable, repeatable burn. We monitor ours continuously rather than relying on a single check at the point of delivery.
Alongside that we test locally, batch by batch, using moisture meters ahead of dispatch. Readings are logged as part of our quality records, which is exactly the evidence a certification body expects to see when a supplier is audited.
Staying compliant is a legal obligation, and we treat it as a baseline rather than an achievement. Choosing certified wood keeps your appliance working efficiently, keeps emissions from your chimney as low as they can reasonably be, and supports responsible sourcing of British hardwood.
Key Advantages of Timber Culture Certified Log Fuel
Maximum Heat Output
Dry wood wastes almost no energy boiling off water. Every bag burns hotter and longer, so you need less fuel to heat the same room.
Cleaner Air & Less Smoke
Under 20% moisture means a hotter, more complete burn with far less smoke and dramatically lower PM2.5 particulate emissions.
Stove & Flue Protection
Wet timber creates creosote and tar that cling to your flue. Certified dry logs keep your stove, liner and chimney cleaner and safer.
Fully Audited Quality
Woodsure audits our moisture testing and record keeping, so the certification on the bag is backed by independent, repeatable checks.
